This is a sponsored post written by me for CHOC Walk as an observer.

This year, CHOC Walk in the Park presented by Disneyland Resort is on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at the Disneyland® Resort. The event brings the community together to raise funds to treat CHOC kids through award-winning programs, education and research.

My 12 TIPS for CHOC Walk:

You can decide if you want to become a fundraiser, a walker, or team leader. I suggest forming a team. One of the first year I learned about CHOC Walk, I registered to walk and fundraised but did not have a committed person to walk with me so I ended up not walking that year because I talked myself out of it closer to the date. It’s just really early in the morning and I think I had a toddler at the time too. This is my third year walking and I love it!

  1. Personalize Team Shirts because it’s fun to match. Pick a color that no one else will have (don’t pick white). You’ll also need a design, time to print them, and collect funds if needed. An online spreadsheet will help collect and keep track of orders. Schedule time to distribute shirts ahead of time.
  2. Wear comfortable running or walking shoes.
  3. Bring balloons. It’s crowded and members might wander off taking pictures but it might be easier to spot that McQueen or Moana balloon. Pick your favorite character.
  4. Agree on a Meeting Spot at the entrance of the park and if you have constant late arrivers, give them an earlier time. Hint: It always takes about 30 minutes to walk from Downtown Disney to the entrance. Plus don’t forget security now too.
  5. Consider staying the night before at the Disneyland Resort or at a nearby hotel. Traffic from LA will be unpredictable.
  6. Send out itineraries and always communicate with your Team Members. Be as detailed as possible. Don’t forget to add a meeting point at Downtown Disney. Maybe add a place for breakfast to celebrate your accomplishments.
  7. If you are a Team Leader, it might be helpful to keep a team roster with cell phone numbers in case someone gets split up from the group. Do a headcount at the beginning, during, and end if you have too.
  8. Remind everyone to keep an eye out for their own children.
  9. You don’t have to pack water because they hand out water bottles but pack a light snack in case some did not eat breakfast before the walk.
  10. Make note of the restrooms and if you have a large group, stop to give everyone a break.
  11. Be a cheerleader! Your team will be hungry, tired, and maybe annoyed. Stop and take photos but be mindful of others in the group. Keep it at a good pace. Rest if needed.
  12. Have Fun! It takes about one hour to speed walk through both parks but you’ll want to stop and take photos of the park and characters. The walk will be over before you know it. Remind yourself you’re doing it for a good cause.

My 2017 CHOC WALK RECAP:

Here is a recap of one of the walks I’ve done in the past.

What another amazing year at CHOC Walk in the Park! It was an early rise for all of us, but we were so anxious to get started, we couldn’t even sleep the night before. I think my team slept 1.5 to 3 hours because we stayed up all night talking. You’d think we never see each other. What was it really? Was it because we didn’t want to miss our alarms or maybe it was because we haven’t had a slumber party in so long? We needed to check in at Downtown Disney by 5:00 a.m. PST to make it to the Opening Ceremony at 6:15 a.m. at Main Street USA. Coffee was a must, but other things that took time was find parking, getting through security, and walking over to the front of the Disneyland park entrance alone takes about another thirty minutes. There were a lot of walkers waiting already, but no one was complaining.

I think the ceremony is one of the best parts of the whole experience so if you arrived too late, you might be one of the last groups still trying to get in. They fill Main Street USA to the max and even then, as we were exiting the first park, there were still walkers at the entrance. They select a Walk Ambassador every year and the family’s story is always heartfelt and remarkable. As I look into the faces of the crowd, everyone is holding signage declaring why this cause is important to them. The DJ plays music to get you all pumped up, Disney cast members are out giving high-fives and some are handing out water. Various youth groups, school bands, and cheerleaders are out there with their bright smiles and encouraged us to finish. Plus who doesn’t love seeing Mickey Mouse and friends bright and early?

SPONSORED #TemeculaValleyFAM

Most recently we went to Temecula to visit a friend who just bought a house out there. It would normally take about an hour and a half to get there, but there’s always unexpected traffic along the way so it ended up being two hours from South Orange County. We had brunch in Old Town Temecula and when we started to walk around, I started to remember about a trip I took about ten years ago with a group of bloggers/influencers to Tour Temecula Valley back in May 2015 in partnership with Visit Temecula Valley. We took a walking tour, visited a couple of their wineries, and attended a Balloon Glow for their annual Balloon & Wine Festival. It was dejavu. I went back to this old post and had to update it. I also wanted to see if some of the old places we visited were still there.

Walking Tour of Temecula

The morning of our tour we visited seven stops within our “Walking Tour of Temecula” all before we even checked into our hotel! It was eventful, nonetheless, and we were in for a full day of fun. We started at (1) Temecula Olive Oil Company where we tasted six various extra virgin olive oils from California olives. What a unique experience! After taking several shots of delicious olive oil pairings, we headed to our next destination – (2) Pennypickle’s Workshop Temecula Children’s Museum. This fun house is an imaginative world of Professor Phineas Pennypickle where children can explore inventions, gadgets, and gizmos. A few blocks away, we stopped into (3) Temecula Lavendar Co. which was aromatherapy to our senses.

I thought it was a bit early to visit a candy store before lunch but we stopped into (4) Old Town Sweet Shop which was very tempting before visiting (5) Old Town Rootbeer Company (sorry this place is now closed) for tastings of their famous soda made with honey and cane sugar. They have over 500 choices of soda in glass bottles! One of our last stops was (6) Old Town Spice & Tea Merchants where we tasted tea and admired their spice collection (they have over 250 spices) before we had a delicious lunch at (7) Crush & Brew. Hint: Their Bacon Parmesan French Fries and Lobster Mac and Cheese is a must!

Accommodations

After lunch we checked into our hotel at SpringHill Suites Temecula Valley which was super close to Old Town Temecula and in a convenient location. It’s a 15 minute walk to Old Town Temecula or a 5 minute drive. My room had a contemporary design with a separate living space which included a desk, a sofa, and a mini-refrigerator. We had little time to freshen up before Viva Limo picked us up to tour wine country! (We didn’t want to be late to the dinner or the miss the Balloon Glow).

Vineyards and Wineries

Lorimar Vineyards and Winery was devine. We were all given a tasting card which allowed six tastings from their wine menu. I like my wine on the sweeter side and narrowed it down to two favorites: Lorimar’s 2013 Muscat Canelli and 2014 White Merlot. Wilson Creek Winery and Vineyard. Their property is absolutely beautiful. We saw families rehearsing for their wedding, families with children having dinner, and folks enjoying themselves over conversation and wine. After our tour of the vineyard with their infamous Almond Champagne, we stopped in the “Barrel Room” to have a beautiful dinner and enjoyed more wine before our last destination – An Evening Balloon Glow at Temecula’s Balloon & Wine Festival!

Temecula Balloon and Wine Festival

The balloon festival was unique and really fun. This three day festival has live music, food, games, and alcohol. It has camping options and hot air balloon rides. If you love this time of year, and love being scared or just love pumpkin patches. Here are few things happening around Los Angeles and Orange County. I used to take my kids when they were younger to all of the pumpkin patches, and it became a month long celebration. The amusement parks are always fun and some have a kid-friendly version during the day, and the super scary one at night. Here is a few that I know of. If there is something you want to add to the list, please add it in the comment section!

Family-Friendly!

  1. Boo at the Santa Ana Zoo
  2. Discovery Cube Pumpkin Palooza
  3. Adventure City’s Boo-tastic Halloween Party
  4. LEGOLAND Brick-or-Treat

Helpful Tips!

Sometimes the Monster Trucks are spotted around town. They are free and you can get photos with the truck and their driver. (Photo below was from six years ago when Max-D was at a Jiffy Lube in Orange. It’s my kid’s absolute favorite!) I also recommend bringing something to protect your ears like noise cancelling headphones or earplugs. I found some very inexpensive noise reduction earmuffs for the children at Harbor Freight in the safety section for $2.99. They have other options available too. Closer is not always better. We didn’t have any problems bringing in our DSLR’s but you’ll need a zoom lens to capture close-ups of cars in the air. We have had seats on both lower and upper levels. We have fun every time, but you can’t see the whole track when you are on the lower levels. Additionally, they do not have the same trucks at every event so if you have a favorite truck or driver you’re expecting to see, be sure to check out the line-up beforehand.

Driver Safety

Monster Jam drivers are trained athletes who have mastered not only the physical strength and mental stamina needed to compete, but the vital dexterity to control 12,000-pound machines capable of doing backflips, vertical two-wheel skills and racing at speeds up to 70 miles per hour. The Monster Jam trucks are designed to protect the driver at all times. A specially-constructed roll cage is built to house the driver, who is often sitting directly in the middle. Specially constructed seats that mold to the driver’s shape allow the work to be done with minimal distraction. A five-point harness is mounted securely to the truck to help hold the driver in position. The truck includes a receiver for a Remote Ignition Interrupter (RII). A signal can be transmitted to the truck by way of a special radio, which will shut off the engine. Each truck has a secondary on-off switch located at the rear on the frame. Other safety features are designed, built and mandated to keep the truck safe and operational. Each driver is equipped with specified safety gear, starting with the custom fitted fire resistant driving suit. The suits offer a minimum of three layers of protection. The helmet meets Snell Foundation regulations for fire-resistance while serving as part of the head-and-neck restraint system, which includes a tested and approval harness system. The drivers’ hands are protected by flame-resistant gloves which have a tacky grip side for steering wheel control. The drivers’ feet are protected by special fire resistant shoes that also include a thin sole for optimal throttle and brake control.

Back for the holidays, American Ballet Theatre’s The Nutcracker is now performing at Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Orange County (December 9th through December 18)! The story is about a little girl and her cherished nutcracker around Christmas time. The villains are mice who causes havoc to the toys and the children are afraid of them. In ballet there are no voices nor talking. To understand the story and to understand what is happening in the scene, you have to watch their facial expression, body language and listen to the tone of the music. The props play an important part too like for example, the children were throwing tantrums to open presents at the party. The creepy Drosselmeyer appears and brings the toys to life. You can tell that they are toys because they are dancing in front of the giant present boxes. We have taken the children in the past and we always leave feeling overjoyed with holiday spirit.

This year you can celebrate all month long at Segerstrom beginning on December 4 with every family’s Christmas classic, Mannheim Steamroller Christmas and continuing with fun outdoor events Silent Night Silent Disco (December 9, 2022) and Holidays Around the World (December 10). Sugar plums and fairies grace the stage with the return of American Ballet Theatre’s The Nutcracker (December 9-18), followed by seasonal concerts The Broadway Hollywood Holiday Songbook (December 15-17), Johnny Mathis Christmas Concert (December 23), Fiesta Navidad (December 23), and the season culminates with Salute to Vienna (January 1).
