Segerstrom Center: Tango Buenos Aires – The Spirit of Argentina Nov18-19th Plus FREE Dance Lessons!

Post written by contributing writer, Angela Camacho. Angela will be covering this event as media. The Tango has always fascinated me. When I was a young girl, I took dance lessons and dreamt about this romantic sensual dance. I would get carried away in my thoughts, and pictured myself in a long velvet red dress with a red rose in my hair. I loved the Latin music and the passionate synchronized movements of this elegant dance. I am totally ecstatic because on November 17th and 18th, The Segerstrom Center of The Arts in Costa Mesa will present Tango Buenos Aires – “The Spirit of Argentina”, PLUS there are free dance lessons … READ MORE >>

SOMETHING ROTTEN! Nov 7–19, 2017 at Segerstrom Center for the Arts

“Something Rotten!” is coming to Segerstrom Center for the Arts and I cannot wait. As a fan of musicals, my favorites by far are comedies. “Something Rotten!” is set in the late 16th century and tells the tale of two brothers trying to produce the first musical ever. Their story unfolds as Nick and Nigel Bottom rehears their upcoming play. To their dismay, their nemesis, Shakespeare, foils their plan. In an effort to continue receiving financial support from their patron, they must now come up with a new plan. The story is based on a book by John O’Farrell and Karey Kirkpatrick. Original music and lyrics are composed and written by Karey and Wayne Kirkpatrick. “Something Rotten!” debuted in Broadway in March 2015 and closed production in January 1, 2017. Official US tour began on January 2017 and will stop in Orange County in just a few days. Time Out New York dubbed “Something Rotten!” as “Broadway’s funniest musical comedy in at least 400 years!” Critics have lauded the score, performance, and choreography; it’s no wonder that this Renaissance-inspired comedy received 10 Tony® nominations, including Best Musical. Other accomplishments include eleven Outer Circle Critics, two Drama League, eight Drama Desk, Grammy nominations.

Teatro alla Scala Ballet Company’s GISELLE in Orange County July 28-30

Segerstrom Center for the Arts welcomes Teatro alla Scala Ballet Company in an exclusive West Coast engagement performing GISELLE for one weekend only July 28 – 30, 2017. A tour of the Teatro alla Scala Ballet Company in the United States is an exciting and rare event. This is the first time that La Scala, based in Milan, Italy, has visited since July 2001. One of the most performed classical ballets, GISELLE, with its world premiere dating back to 1841, is the tale of love, betrayal and redemption between a peasant girl, Giselle, and Prince Albrecht.

GISELLE is one of the most popular and most performed classical story ballets. The La Scala production, enriched by Aleksandr Benois’ sets and costumes that are part of the Scala’s repertoire features the original Coralli-Perrot choreography in the revival by Yvette Chauviré. Her own moving interpretations of roles such as Giselle, celebrated the classical ballet tradition in all its purity. One of the most popular works in recent La Scala seasons and international tours, GISELLE is now staged by the La Scala Ballet Company as a homage to Yvette Chauviré, the extraordinary artist who recently died. In her version of GISELLE, performed at La Scala for the first time in 1950, Chauviré herself starred as the ill-fated peasant girl who dreamt of love and loved to dance.
