January is National Learn to Ski / Snowboard Month + Mt High Specials

Most of us in Southern California are so snow-deprived, we rush out the minute we learn there’s fresh powder. There is rain + snow in the forecast. I wonder how many people will call in sick so they can visit a ski resort. Lucky for us, Mountain High Ski Resort is about a 90-minute drive away from Orange County and Los Angeles making it great for day trips! We always try to get there annually, and we always take lessons at the beginning of the season as a refresher course. My kids always have a blast! Mountain High is where Southern Californians learn to ski and snowboard. Even international snowboarding superstars such as Chloe Kim and Maddie Mastro got their starts on the slopes at Mountain High.

The initiative is supported by the ski and snowboard industry including national, regional and state associations, resorts, industry trade media, retailers and more.

“The new year is the perfect time to learn for anyone who has wanted to put on a pair of skis or hop onto a snowboard,” said John McColly, Mountain High chief marketing officer. “Skiing and snowboarding are both fun, healthy ways to enjoy the great outdoors and take in the beautiful Southern California weather.”

Tips for Beginners

During the first lesson, participants will learn how to properly use their equipment, balance and execute basic maneuvers such as sliding and stopping. It is important to remember that learning to ski or snowboard is not a one-time event, but rather a lifestyle. Mountain High’s certified instructors teach proven techniques with the latest equipment and the resort’s lesson programs have some of the highest success rates in the country with lessons available for all skill levels. Be sure to keep practicing because studies show that most people require three lessons to really get the hang of skiing and snowboarding.
