prAna Sustainable Clothing Movement – Why Organic Cotton Matters

This post is written by me for prAna. All opinions are my own.

It’s a gorgeous morning in Newport Beach, California. It was a little chilly in the morning so I brought out my new fall gear from prAna. Did you know that they only use Organic Cotton? Before prAna, I didn’t even know what that means. prAna cares about where their cotton comes from, because they not only care about the environment, they care about the farmers and their makers. Organic cotton is not only better for the environment in so many ways, the farmers are not exposed to harmful pesticides and chemicals, but the cotton also drinks less water. Of course, we all know our purchases in general impact the environment, but I’ve never really thought about it in clothing. Have you? After learning about it, I’m going to be more thoughtful the next time I buy clothes.

I’m wearing prAna’s Carlotta Crop in Indigo and Remi Waffle Pullover in Rhubarb.

3 Reasons to Buy for Organic Cotton on Your Next Purchase

prAna not only believes clothing should be made ethically, it should be the standard in the apparel industry. Organic cotton drinks less water, uses rainwater more efficiently, eliminates GMOs and harmful chemicals from your closet, and so much more. It’s the obvious choice.

  1. PEOPLE > Farmers and their families are no longer exposed to harmful chemicals.
  2. SOIL > Regenerate life and biodiversity in the soil to improve the health of our planet.
  3. WATER > Save 115 gallons of water when you switch one t-shirt to organic cotton.

What is Sustainable Clothing?

“The clothes we wear tell a story. From the fields where our organic cotton and hemp are grown, to the beaches where plastic bottles are harvested, to the chemicals that need to be managed upstream, to the safety and well-being of the people assembling our clothing, there is a rich and inspiring story built into each and every piece we create. Ultimately, sustainable clothing respects the planet and its people. When you choose to invest in a piece of our clothing, you are propelling the sustainable clothing movement forward. You are casting a vote for social and environmental responsibility, for transparency, for a fundamental change in the way clothing is made. This is our environmental heritage and it’s been this way from the beginning. Simply, sustainability is part of our DNA.”

PRODUCT DETAILS

prAna sent me some sample pieces to try. I’m wearing their Carlotta Crop in Indigo and Remi Waffle Pullover in Rhubarb. Their top is made with a recycled polyester and organic cotton blend. I am going for the casual look, but you can dress it up with accessories. Their fitted cropped jeans is my new favorite pair of jeans this fall. They used an organic cotton blend that is stretchy. It also has a side seam which I like. For more information about prAna or to see all their products, please visit their website at www.prana.com.
