Mathnasium Math Learning Center After Two Month Update

It has been about two months since we tried Mathnasium – The Math Learning Center in Laguna Niguel. My son who has special needs is in Gen Ed this year for 5th Grade and although I know he may or may never catch up, Math is his strength. What is holding him back is reading and comprehension so he struggles with word problems. It is hard for me to gauge how he is doing and where he needs to be, but as long as he is learning that is all that matters to me. I wanted to try Mathnasium to see if they can help close some of those learning … READ MORE >>

Dana Point Harbor Boat Parade

Where to Find the Holiday Boat Parades in Orange County!

Here’s a fun holiday tradition that you can enjoy with your family and friends – Go see a holiday boat parade in Orange County! We try to do this every year. Since we are within close proximity to the beaches and harbors, we can select from several viewing spots along Dana Point Harbor, Huntington Harbor, or Newport Harbor. The parade can be enjoyed by land or by boat. We have done both, and they’re both great! Parade routes can be downloaded so you can plan your day accordingly. Some include minute-to-minute stops. As you can imagine some of the spots are busier than others. I personally like the quieter spots … READ MORE >>

Personalized Learning Plans at Mathnasium – The Math Learning Center #MathnasiumOC

One of my boys struggle with reading and comprehension in general which makes it difficult for him to solve math word problems. He has an IEP, and I love his teachers this year, but there is only so much they can do in the classroom. I have partnered up with MATHNASIUM in Laguna Niguel for two months to see if they can help close some of the gaps. What I have seen so far has been impressive. As a learning center, their objectives are to uncover and address the gaps in the student’s knowledge. They hope to build self-confidence and self-esteem in the children. They want to teach it in a way that will make sense for them, and they want to help the children strengthen their math skills. The groups are kept small and the children are rewarded for their efforts. If they accumulate enough points, they spin a wheel at the end of the session for bonus points which are redeemable for prizes. My son looks forward to going back bi-weekly.

Jimmy’s Famous American Tavern aka J-FAT Menu Options

If you are feeling really hungry and looking for somewhere to fill the bellies of your family, Jimmy’s Famous American Tavern (also known as J-FAT), have dishes you can share, and they even have a Large Plate section on their menu. A few months ago we went to a menu tasting in Dana Point, but they have locations in Brea, San Diego, Woodland Hills, and a new one in Santa Monica. The food was as good as it looks. Here are some dishes I got to try.
