GUYS AND DOLLS Musical Review at Segerstrom Center | #GuysAndDollsTour #SCFTA

Spread the love

We attended the opening night of GUYS AND DOLLS musical as media at the Sergerstrom Center in Costa Mesa this past week, and it was bustling with gamblers, gangsters and sassy showgirls. This fun musical introduces audiences to a cast of characters who have become legends in the musical theater world.

Nathan Detroit (Christopher Swan) is a full-time gambler who runs the illegal floating crap game In New York. His desperation to find a place for his latest crap game and his equally desperate attempt to hide that fact from his fiancee will leave you laughing. My favorite line: “A guy without a doll? Well, if a guy does not have a doll, who would holler on him? A doll is a necessity!”

Miss Adelaine (Lauren Weinberg), Nathan’s frustrated fiancée of 14 years and star doll at The Hot Box night club, is always a fiancée, never a wife, and she suffers from a psychosomatic cold which only marriage can cure. Lauren Weinberg steals the show and your sympathies when she sings “Adelaide’s Lament” and “A Bushel and a Peck”.

Pre-Show Lobby Activities
All ticket holders attending GUYS AND DOLLS at Segerstrom Center for the Arts from April 14 – 19, 2015 were invited to partake in fun complimentary lobby activities one hour before all performances.

  • What’s Your Mob Name? Take a gamble and find out your mobster name for the evening by playing the game on both the Orchestra and Orchestra Terrace Levels. Fun name tags will be provided for patrons. (For the evening, I was Thelma “Lucky Legs” Gotti and my date was Tommy “Coins”)
  • Damon Runyon’s vibrant Runyonland illustration transforms into a photo opportunity on the Orchestra Terrace Level.
  • “The heat is on at the floating crap game you bet all your potatoes on.” For a rip-roaring good time, we browsed through the interactive GUYS AND DOLLS iPad glossary to discover what that meant. The station was located in the lobby.

The entire ensemble of dancing and singing gamblers, gangsters, and dolls added up to a charming and fun evening for me and my date. Thanks for a wonderful evening, GUYS AND DOLLS, and Segerstrom Center!
