Blackmarket Bakery: NEW Santa Ana Location Opens Sat, Jan 9th! #blackmarketonbroadway

Spread the love

Blackmarket Bakery’s new Santa Ana location opens this Saturday, January 9th!

Blackmarket Bakery‘s baking fundamentals are butter, flour, sugar and eggs (all “blackmarket” goods during WWII). Chef Rachel Klemek focuses on delivering a culinary experience using natural ingredients, complex textures, and global flavors. After three years of success from their Costa Mesa location, they are now expanding to Artists Village in Downtown Santa Ana in the Santora building on Broadway.
First 50 in line at their Grand Opening Saturday, January 9th at 8:00 am gets a Free “Eggywich”!

Days later, I am still enjoying Blackmarket’s Shortbread Assortment. I plan to go back and get more for Lunar New Year gift baskets, and I look forward to trying their sandwiches and other pastries. Chef Rachel told me that they don’t throw out their cookies at the end of the day, they soak them and make Cookie Monster Bread Pudding! If you’ve never been to Downtown Santa Ana, it’s a trendy area with several parking structures and metered parking. For more information, please visit their website.

ABOUT BLACKMARKET BAKERY: Chef/Owner Rachel Klemek trained at the prestigious Culinary Institute of America Greystone. There, she graduated at the top of her class and was lauded for combining traditional European techniques with exotic flavors. Before opening her first Blackmarket Bakery location in 2004, her experience included working for the eccentric Dutchmen of Utopia Bakery, the renowned team of Dean & Deluca, Josiah Citrin at Melisse in Santa Monica, and Zov Kararmardian at Zov’s Bistro in Tustin.

Since opening Blackmarket Bakery in 2004, Chef Rachel Klemek has created a distinct brand that revolves around producing great baked goods. Her cakes and fresh breads are just a few of the items that showcase Chef Rachel’s culinary genius, inspired approach to baking and passion for her craft. Furthering her goal of empowering the community with quality, whole ingredients and tried techniques presented in an artful context, in 2012, the Blackmarket Bakery brand expanded to its second retail location at The CAMP in Costa Mesa. That same year, Chef Rachel was honored as Orange County’s leading Pastry Chef at the inaugural Golden Foodie Awards, and at the 2nd annual event as well.
