Nintendo 3DS Super Mario 3D Land Edition Bundle #PlayNintendo

Disclosure: I received a product sample to review.
We’ve moved recently to South Orange County and are proud new homeowners. It is an exciting time for us and even though it is not super far from where we were, it feels like a whole new world to us and it will take some getting used to. For example, I have to learn the new school’s drop off and pick up schedule. I like showing up early but even 15 minutes is not early enough as parents have already been waiting there. The 15 minutes soon became 30 minutes and one time last week I was 40 minutes early and I was still not first in line. Wow, Really? I am not sure if this is the case for other campuses but lucky for me I brought along my new toy, a Nintendo 3DS, to keep me busy. Gaming is my favorite pastime and Nintendo brings back so many fond memories making me feel young again. This was me in the 40 minute pick up line last week oblivious to everything around me because I am obsessed with getting a perfect score (or collecting all the Star Medals) in Super Mario 3D Land!

My boys received the Nintendo Wii U last year for Christmas from a generous relative. We spent countless hours trying to complete Super Mario 3D World, and I love that we can play up to four people at the same time. While I like to collect every hidden Super Medal and coins for extra lives, my kids like to get through as many stages as quickly as possible to see what the next one looks like. It gets a little nutty trying to communicate with everyone and to get through each stage, but I love that it is something we are doing together and it is now part of their childhood memories. I know the game enough to know there are hidden stages and worlds to unlock. I don’t really want to compare the two games because there are similarities and differences but Super Mario 3D Land for the Nintendo 3DS is great on the road and for those long wait times. Remember last week I thought I was almost done with it? Nope, not done. It unlocked special levels and Luigi as another character option. As while you can have up to 4 players on the Wii U, we can only have one player on the 3DS so we take turns and can save up to three player files. My kids usually end up playing with mine because I have the most lives and have completed the most stages. (I ended up starting over with a new file because I wanted to play each stage myself.)

The Super Mario 3D Land Edition bundle comes with two exclusive cover plates and the game pre-installed. I love the themed plates and can’t decide which one I love more. They are both awesome. (Note: The AC Adapter is sold separately.) You can download and purchase games over WiFi and the 3D features can be easily adjusted or turned on/off on the device. It comes with a built-in amiibo, C-stick, and a stylus. (I’m not 100% sure what the C-stick is used for but I’m sure it is another enhanced controller for other games).

My Bucket Play List

I am loving my first game experience so far, but would like to get to these all too:

  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Donkey Kong Country Returns
  • Animal Crossing
  • Kirby Planet Robobot
  • Yoshi’s New Island
  • Mario Kart 7
  • Disney’s Art Academy – I started playing with it and it taught me how to draw Minnie. See below!

Thank you, Nintendo, for bringing back some of the classics with new worlds to explore! I am loving my new Super Mario 3D Land Edition, and I take it everywhere! They also make great incentives for my kids. If they spend an hour on homework each night, I will allow them to have some game time. They sure do their homework pretty fast. (It currently retails for $149.99). For more information about the Nintendo 3DS, please visit their website at www.nintendo.com/3ds.
