DINING: Solita Tacos and Margaritas + New Tequila Tasting Thursdays #solitamommies

Spread the love
We finally got to try Solita Tacos in Huntington Beach. If you love Mexican food with a contemporary flare, Solita is worth checking out. They just celebrated their second anniversary and we got to try their inaugural tequila tasting Thursdays. They’re also participating during OC Restaurant Week. If you’re wondering if it’s family-friendly, they sat us in the middle where we can see the action in the bar area but we were also half way in the patio where all the other families were and where it was much quieter. It’s kind of like the best of both worlds.

antojitos (little cravings)

We tried two items on the appetizer menu. The first being their spicy maria shrimp cocktel which has shrimp tossed in their in-house Bloody Mary mix with tequila and smoky chipotle chiles, salsa fresca, lime and avocado. The portion was quite large (great to share), and it was pretty spicy. Another item on the menu is their fresh and tasty guacamole solita. Served in a fried tortilla bowl, it includes diced mango, tomato, onions, Serrano chile and cilantro.

taco plates

Not sure what to order? You can’t go wrong with the el primo taco taster plate which includes 4 tacos to mix and match and a choice of one side. We tasted the grilled chicken, carne asada, crispy fried fish, and pork carnitas. We enjoyed them all! There are lots of other varieties to choose from on their taco plates menu as well as soup & salad, nachos, and other Mexican favorites like burrito, quesadilla, and enchiladas.

kids

On the Kid’s Menu, kids 8 and under can select from PB&J quesadilla rollups (bananas optional), kids beans & cheese burrito, chicken cheese & rice burrito, 2 kids chicken tacos, cheese quesadilla, chicken quesadilla, or a chicken & cheese enchilada.

We had a great experience at Solita Tacos. It’s like the best of both worlds. I could either visit with friends for drinks during Happy Hour or dine with family out in the patio. Lots of families were there as well as the singles who stayed over by the bar. Next time I come back, I want to try their grilled corn elote on their appetizer menu and another Skinny Margarita please.

Have fun,
Mary

NEW tequila thursdays!

Tequila Thursday is a weekly event during which guests can enjoy a complimentary tasting of a featured tequila every Thursday from 6-8 pm PLUS they can then enjoy the featured tequila all night for half-off the normal price! The event takes place in the bar area and guests will be served on a first come, first serve basis. For example, on their 2nd anniversary and first tequila Thursday, they featured Single Barrel Reposado Tequila. Each week will feature a new single barrel.

“This is actually our ninth barrel of the Single Barrel Reposado and we have been blending and serving the preceding barrels at our sister restaurant SOL Cocina for a number of years now,” explains Managing Partner Matt Baumayr, who has always made it a point to provide guests with a unique experience. “This tequila is great served neat or in a margarita – it has hints of orange peel, milk chocolate, fresh ground coffee, and cooked agave. The front of the palate has a very approachable almost soft sweetness with the typical notes of vanilla and butterscotch, but with additional flavors of toasted oak and cedar. The finish is smooth and lingering with a zing of heat before it drops off. It’s definitely worth coming out to Tequila Thursday to give it a try!”
