American Ballet Theatre THE NUTCRACKER

Spread the love

Back for the holidays, American Ballet Theatre’s The Nutcracker is now performing at Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Orange County (December 9th through December 18)! The story is about a little girl and her cherished nutcracker around Christmas time. The villains are mice who causes havoc to the toys and the children are afraid of them. In ballet there are no voices nor talking. To understand the story and to understand what is happening in the scene, you have to watch their facial expression, body language and listen to the tone of the music. The props play an important part too like for example, the children were throwing tantrums to open presents at the party. The creepy Drosselmeyer appears and brings the toys to life. You can tell that they are toys because they are dancing in front of the giant present boxes. We have taken the children in the past and we always leave feeling overjoyed with holiday spirit.

This year you can celebrate all month long at Segerstrom beginning on December 4 with every family’s Christmas classic, Mannheim Steamroller Christmas and continuing with fun outdoor events Silent Night Silent Disco (December 9, 2022) and Holidays Around the World (December 10). Sugar plums and fairies grace the stage with the return of American Ballet Theatre’s The Nutcracker (December 9-18), followed by seasonal concerts The Broadway Hollywood Holiday Songbook (December 15-17), Johnny Mathis Christmas Concert (December 23), Fiesta Navidad (December 23), and the season culminates with Salute to Vienna (January 1).
