Golf Carts are one of the main ways of getting around Avalon, California on Catalina Island. They are also a great way to explore scenic Avalon in a short amount of time. You can rent a golf cart at several locations for an hourly rate. (We only needed it for about 2 hours.) Catalina Island Golf Cart Rentals and Tours gave us a route to follow and the map is really easy to read. Primarily staying off residential streets with some being one-way roads, it takes you all around the outskirts of the city of Avalon, but you are always in the driver seat so you can stop whenever you want.
The views are just incredible! My favorite spots are over there by Mt. Ada Wrigley Mansion where you overlook Avalon Bay. Another spot that we really enjoy is by Hog’s Back gate where you can watch zipliners then overlook Descanso Beach. Thirdly but not least, near Chimes Tower, there is yet another gorgeous view of the bay. The tour is great because we see parts of the island we would normally not see like the valleys and a glimpse of residential life on the island. It had me fantasizing what it would be like to live here on the island. We love the peacefulness of Avalon and how clean it is. Driving a golf cart around town is really fun, and this is something we try to do it every time we visit. Our tour lasted about an hour because we were pressed for time, but if you have an extra hour, the full tour route takes you up to Wrigley Memorial & Botanical Garden.
There are several ways to reserve a golf cart with Catalina Island Golf Carts & Tours. You can reserve it online, at the Tours and Activities Center at the ports, call (310) 510-6100, or visit one of two of their locations in Avalon (Crescent and Metropole Ave OR Crescent and Clarissa Ave). www.catalinaislandgolfcart.com
Note: No drivers are allowed under 25 years old. Small children may need car seats.

Have Extra Time?
If you happen to have extra time after your tour and your kids are restless, there is a playground right across the way from the Cartopia location at the corner of Pebbly Beach Road and Crescent by the radio station. (My kids needed time to run around from sitting for so long.) If you would like to see a full list of activities and what Catalina offers, please visit Catalina Island Visitor Center located near the foot of the Green Pleasure Pier or their website at www.CatalinaChamber.com.
