My husband and I attended a performance of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA when they were performing at Segerstrom Center for the Arts. At the time, Leatherby’s Cafe Rouge offered theme menus in collaboration with the featured theater performances. It had been a while since my husband and I had a date night since the kids so having dinner with a theater performance was a real treat. We were about to enjoy a delicious dinner and a night of beautiful singing.

I’m not sure if they do it anymore, but if you ever want to make your theater night extra special, check Leatherby’s for their featured themed menu. We experienced their phantom-themed 3 course menu. It was the perfect compliment to the performance! There are two options for each course. Main Course options are WISHING YOU WERE SOMEHOW HERE AGAIN which includes a tender CAB hanger steak, potato espuma, crispy shallots, asparagus, and bearnaise, OR go with the vegetarian option, MAGICAL LASSO, a house made fettuccine with kale pesto and market vegetables. For the Desserts, select from the FINALE that includes a refreshing house made sorbet, berries, and toasted pound cake, or the OPERA which is a rich opera cake with coffee, almond, and chocolate. If you love chocolate, order the OPERA.
We were in for a night full of beautiful singing. I was delighted the moment they lit up that chandelier. Chris Mann (The Phantom), Katie Travis (Christine), Storm Lineberger (Raoul), and Jacquelynne Fontaine (Carlotta) delivers a powerful performance to a timeless classic. My favorite scene was when The Phantom takes Christine across the foggy lake as they sang their theme song, The Phantom of the Opera. I also loved their performance to All I Ask of You and Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again at the Graveyard. The costumes were absolutely beautiful, and I loved that this musical performance includes opera singing and ballet. Date Nights are rare for us because our children are young so it’s extra special when we can also include a lovely dinner. Patina Group’s Restaurant, Leatherby’s Café Rouge, is conveniently located at the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall.
We had a lovely evening at Segerstrom Center for the Arts for a night of dinner and theater. It was the perfect combination. THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA is now one of my favorite musicals, and my husband and I had a rare and wonderful night out that we will cherish forever. For more information, please check their website.
