Earning free gas from purchasing groceries? What a great reward! You might already be familiar with the Gas Rewards Program at Vons, but now you can earn free gas from your purchases at Albertsons too! On February 1st, Albertsons launched Gas Rewards with Chevron and Texaco across 130 stores in Southern California. Shoppers can redeem up to $0.20 per gallon in Gas Rewards at participating Chevron and Texaco stations AND Albertsons shoppers can also redeem up to $1 per gallon at Vons gas stations!

I wanted to try it out myself so I downloaded the Albertsons app. Signing up is really easy to do. Go online at Albertsons.com/rewards or download the Albertsons app which is available for iOS™ and Android® devices. On the app, you can check out the weekly ads, create a shopping list, check your rewards summary, and find the nearest gas station. At check out, I just gave them my phone number without pulling out the app. You earn a point for every $1 you spend on eligible groceries and qualifying pharmacy items (earn double points on gift card purchases). The points are reflected on my receipt, and it took about an hour to show up on my app. Some exclusions may apply like alcohol, tobacco, fuel and automotive services, bus passes, fishing or hunting licenses, ski passes, postage stamps, lottery tickets, amusement park passes, event tickets, or money orders purchases.
Save at the Pump
As mentioned, it took about an hour for the app to reflect my Gas Rewards. After my first shopping trip I earned 62 points, but after a second trip I accumulated my first 100 points and headed to the gas station to start saving. At participating Chevron and Texaco stations you can earn up to $0.20 per gallon if you accumulate 200 points OR save up to $1 per gallon for 1,000 points redeemable at a participating Vons gas station.
- 100 points = save $0.10 per gallon
- 200 points = save $0.20 per gallon
- 1,000 points = save $1.00 per gallon (at participating Vons gas stations only).
I usually spend about $100 a week on groceries so it didn’t take me long to accumulate 100 points. After my second trip, I earned Gas Rewards for $0.10 per gallon and was ready to redeem it. The Albertsons app helped me locate my nearest gas station (Chevron, Texaco, or Vons station). Redeeming was really easy to do, and I just had to follow the onscreen instructions.
Note: Point totals less than 100 expire at the end of the calendar month in which they were earned. Gas Rewards earned during each month can be used through the end of the following calendar month (for example, Gas Rewards earned in January expire at the end of February). Savings are limited to 25 gallons for one vehicle per transaction.
