Our favorite Pumpkin Patch in Orange County just got cuter with Hello Kitty and SANRIO friends. It’s a 12-month long collaboration between Tanaka Farms and Sanrio! The partnership kicked off this season on September 30th. Tanaka Farms is located in Irvine, California. It is a working farm that promotes education, healthy eating, teaches sustainability, responsible farming and agriculture. SANRIO friends are placed throughout the farm, and this year a limited edition commemorative Tanaka Farms + Sanrio branded merchandise will be available for purchase at the Farm’s Market Stand!
Tips for the Pumpkin Patch:
Orange County offers a ton of family-friendly things to do to keep you busy all month long. At Tanaka Farms Pumpkin Patch, take a wagon ride around a real working farm, try to find your way out of a real corn maze, visit the animals in the Petting Zoo, pick your own vegetables, find the perfect pumpkin, and more! Now that is plenty fun, but if you go on the weekends, they celebrate the FALL HARVEST FESTIVAL which will include everything mentioned above plus carnival games, ATV rides, pumpkin launches from a cannon, food for purchase, face painting, balloons, and more! This year it is extremely busy, and they are working on providing more parking. Weekdays are always less crowded. You will want to follow their Facebook page for announcements and the most updated information.
U-Pick Vegetables
My kids love this part! U-Pick Vegetables are $2.99/lb, but if you purchase the group rate (for 10 or more paying children), it is included in the children’s price. Last year they picked carrots, green onions, radishes, and green beans right out of the ground. The variety could change based on availability. I love that they see vegetables in their natural environment, and for some reason, they will taste them after a good wash. Why can’t they eat their veggies for me all the time? Look for signs that will teach you how to properly pull them out of the ground.
Check List
- Bring plastic bags or grocery totes to carry your pumpkin and/or vegetables.
- Pumpkin Patch is not a guided tour.
- Bring bottled water. Public drinking water is not available. They are also available for purchase.
- Wear comfortable closed-toed shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty.
- PETS and WAGONS are prohibited.
- Food is available for purchase.
- Restrooms are porta potty’s and there is an area to wash hands.
We love visiting Tanaka Farms, because it’s one more way to enjoy vegetables and celebrate pumpkins. My kids enjoy the ATV rides (which required additional tickets), they love running around the haystack maze, and it was fun picking out our perfect pumpkin. If you’re going with a large group, bring extra grocery totes because someone in the group always forgets. When the children were younger, I ended up carrying all the pumpkins myself which can get heavy and get my clothes dirty. They also offer seasonal tours like Strawberry in the spring, and Watermelon Tours in the winter. They’re all different and equally fun. SANRIO friends will continue to be a part of Tanaka’s 2017 Holiday season as well as the 2018 strawberry, melon, and pumpkin seasons! HURRAY!
