Did you know that sharks can go through as many as 30,000 teeth in their lifetime? SEA LIFE® Aquarium at LEGOLAND® California Resort celebrates the ocean’s top predator during Shark Week, August 4 – 11.
Have you been watching Shark Week on Discovery Channel? It’s fascinating and terrifying all at the same time! We were invited to SEA LIFE Aquarium at the Legoland California Resort in Carlsbad to learn more about these amazing creatures! We got to go behind the scenes and talk to the trainers while they fed the animals in the shark tank. They talked to us about what they feed the sharks and how they train them. The sharks are well fed so they won’t eat the other fish in the tank! SEA LIFE Aquarium is home to more than 50 sharks including zebra sharks, black tips, white tips, grey reef sharks, white spotted bamboo sharks and Port Jackson sharks.
It’s amazing to walk through the tunnel that goes through the shark tank and see the sharks, rays and fish swimming all around you! In true Legoland form, they had even built a shark out of LEGOS! My son loved it!
We were treated to a special presentation by Nicole Nasby Lucas, Marine Biologist, and a Great White Shark expert. She has photographed 150 great whites and named them all. She works with a team to tag the sharks and track their travels to learn more about them. Nicole is featured on a Discovery Channel show called Spawn of Jaws. We learned that Great White Sharks are on the top of the food chain in the ocean and keep everything in balance. It was full of treasures from the sea and lots of interactive things for the kids, which was so fun for them! We can’t wait to go again and experience the marvelous ocean animals!
