5 Things to Try at Northgate Market Newest Store in La Habra!

Northgate Gonzalez Market’s newest flagship store in the City of La Habra had their grand opening this week. If you were among the first 300 customers in line, you would have scored a goodie bag. The line wrapped around the parking lot and into the residential street. I had a hard time finding parking, but it was exciting to see and be a part of. I toured the new flagship store with Lizette Gonzalez, Marketing Project Manager and granddaughter to the original founder. This store has everything and it is beautiful! Northgate Gonzalez Market is family-owned and operated. It has served the La Habra community for more than 30 years, and this is where they all grew up. Their market provide hundreds of authentic hot and cold food options available for convenience to grab-and-go and made-to-order.

What’s New!

Their stores just keeps getting better than ever. For example, they added a sushi department with sushi chefs making it fresh in-store, they expanded their Chef’s Case and Torta Soup bar, expanded their Bakery/Panaderia (includes more than 100 new artisan breads, cakes, and cookies made fresh daily), expanded their El Mercadito (their specialty meat and cheese shop is one of the largest collections from Latin America and around the world), they added a new La Tiendita area with specialty candy and sweets and more! Their churizo recipe is a family recipe that is locked up in a safe. Northgate Gonzalez Market gets their seafood delivered fresh daily from Santa Monica Seafood. Only the three flagship stores have a large seafood department with a Mercado concept because they have the space to do it. New or old, I’m going to share my favorite five departments below!

#1 Ceviche and Shrimp Cocktail Bar

I love their fresh ceviche bar. They hire chefs to develop their recipes, and they’re always adding new ones. There is at least 10 available at all times so you have a variety. They give out samples so you can try them all! They also have a customize-able shrimp cocktail bar so you can adjust it however you need according to your taste.

#2 La Tiendita

Their new La Tiendita is their new indulgence shop where you’ll find everything from fresh made Tosti-locos, Churros, popcorn, specialty candy, ice cream, chocolate covered strawberries, candied apples, classic mexican candy, tamarindo, and all your favorite mexican goodies!

# 3 Fresh Juice Bar

I love their fresh juice and coffee bar. They have everything you can imagine. Last time I was hooked on their green juice and their watermelon juice (seasonal and not available right now), but you can sample them until you find a favorite.

# 4 Tortilleria

Their Torilleria Department is not new, but it deserves an honorable mention. Their tortillas are made in-house and it takes about 9 hours to make. There are no preservatives so their shelf life is about a week. With so many varieties to choose from you don’t need to go anywhere else – flour, corn, mini, large, wheat, and masa if you want to make your own tamales.

#5 Hot and Cold Food Bars

Their Hot and Cold Food Bars features 8 new varieties of tamales, 10 hot soups and stews, a fresh salsa bar, a new salad bar, and 8 new self-serve hot meals for any occasion. Great for grab-and gos! Their made-to-order Taqueria and Loncheria offers traditional favorites like tacos and burritos made right in front of you and they are reasonably priced. (Hint: their carnitas are also from their family recipe).
