The Okee Dokee Brothers will take audiences on a fun-filled musical adventure with their Americana folk-meets-rock-‘n’-roll tunes that are meant to inspire families to explore the natural outdoors together.

For their Orange County premiere, they will perform selections from their 2011 album Can You Canoe?, which earned a Grammy Award for Best Children’s Album. NPR’s All Things Considered states, “The Okee Dokee Brothers remind us of the American belief that we’re bound for better weather. Their album Can You Canoe? celebrates everyday explorers, young and old, who rediscover that notion daily.” The first in their Adventure Album Series, the CD/DVD collection of Can You Canoe? is inspired by their month-long canoe adventure down the Mississippi River. A follow-up album will be released next year titled, Through the Woods.

About the Okee Dokee Brothers:

As childhood friends growing up in Denver, Colorado, Joe Mailander and Justin Lansing were always exploring the outdoors. Whether it was rafting down their neighborhood creek, taking long bike rides into the country or discovering hiking trails through the Rocky Mountains, Mailander and Lansing were born adventurers. Now, as The Okee Dokee Brothers, Mailander and Lansing have put this passion for the outdoors at the heart of their music. Their witty lyrics, strong musicianship and unique style have gained a loyal following, all while advancing the family music genre. The Okee Dokee Brothers record and perform their music with a goal to inspire children and their parents to venture outside and experience nature.

The Okee Dokee Brothers believe this can motivate kids to gain a greater respect for the natural world, their communities and themselves. There will be a free pre-show creative music activities beginning one hour before each performance. The Center’s Education and Community Programs Department offers these activities to provide young people and their families more opportunities to play creatively together. Studies show creative play is critical in helping children develop their ability to think and problem solve.
