Review: National Acrobats of The People’s Republic of China

Disclosure: We attended as media.

On Saturday, September 13th, my husband and I had tickets to see The National Acrobats of The People’s Republic of China at Segerstrom Center for the Arts in the beautiful Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. We were really excited to go. The part when the men jumped through the hoops was impressive. It started off low and as it got higher and higher, it became more challenging. One of the performers made it at an incredible height! You can imagine how strong he has to be to be able to do it from a flat surface (there were no trampolines to jump off of).

The famous The National Acrobats of The People’s Republic of China returns to the Segerstrom Center for the Arts with a new production on Saturday, September 13 at 3 p.m. in the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. Performing worldwide for over 60 years, these acrobats will amaze with their talented display of martial arts.

The National Acrobats of The People’s Republic of China was founded in 1951 and has been one of the most acclaimed acrobatic troupes in China. For several generations, the company has developed many unique acrobatic acts such as “Global Motorcycling,” “Kicking Bowls to Heads on High Unicycles,” “Russian Bars in Chinese Traditional Style,” “Chinese Poles In Shaolin Style,” “Diving Through Moving Hoops,” “Aerial Bungee Tumblings” and “Aerial Tissue Flowers.” These and many other acts have been enjoyed and praised by Chinese and foreign audiences for decades. Since its inception, there have been more than 200 artists of the company that have won the gold and silver awards at international and national acrobatic competitions and circus festivals.

More than 40 years later, the The National Acrobats of The People’s Republic of China has toured to 500 cities in 70 countries. In 2012, five troupes and teams from the company traveled to Germany, Turkey, Taiwan and Singapore. Since 1999, the company has created several impressive productions, such as Mirage, Mirage of Dragons, Confuscise, Pirates! and Sun Birds. These productions have been performed close to 4,000 times in Germany, Brazil, Mexico, Israel, Argentina and Chile. For its 2014 North American tour, the company will bring a brand new production.
