American Ballet Theatre THE NUTCRACKER

Back for the holidays, American Ballet Theatre’s The Nutcracker is now performing at Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Orange County (December 9th through December 18)! The story is about a little girl and her cherished nutcracker around Christmas time. The villains are mice who causes havoc to the toys and the children are afraid of them. In ballet there are no voices nor talking. To understand the story and to understand what is happening in the scene, you have to watch their facial expression, body language and listen to the tone of the music. American Ballet Theatre’s WHIPPED CREAM

American Ballet Theatre (ABT)’s newest production, WHIPPED CREAM, will be performing at Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa for their World Premiere! Choreographed by ABT Artist in Residence, Alexei Ratmansky, with sets and costumes by pop-surrealist, Mark Ryden, this whimsical and inventive premiere tells the story of a young boy who overindulges at a Viennese pastry shop and falls into a delirium. To help him break away from his attending physician, the boy dreams of his triumphant rescue by Princess Praline and her court, along with Princess Tea Flower, Prince Coffee, and marching Marzipan, concluding in a festive celebration! WHIPPED CREAM is based on Schlagobers, a two-act ballet with libretto and score by Richard Strauss that was first performed at the Vienna State Opera in 1924.

It was our pleasure to attend Opening Night of American Ballet Theatre’s World Premiere of their new production, The Sleeping Beauty, performed at Segerstrom Center. This was my first live ballet experience, and it was remarkable! Segerstrom Center: ABT The Sleeping Beauty – Diana Vishneva & Marcelo Gomes – photo Gene Schiavone The ballerinas are elegant and graceful as they danced across the stage. The beautiful Princess Aurora, performed by Diana Vishneva, is playful and loved. Even the children are charming. My friend and I were enchanted by their every movement. The costumes and sets, designed by Richard Hudson (based on the historic work of Léon Bakst from 1921), are … READ MORE >>
