Holidays at LEGOLAND California Resort is officially open! This year’s special guest, actress Jodie Sweetin, helped Santa pull the switch to light the world’s largest 30-foot tall LEGO Christmas tree at LEGOLAND California Resort’s 16th annual tree lighting ceremony in Carlsbad, California. Sweetin, a mother of two, is best known for her role as Stephanie Tanner on the ABC hit show, “Full House”, and the Netflix hit show, “Fuller House”. She is also the star of Hallmark Channel’s Countdown to Christmas’ new original movie, “Entertaining Christmas.”
Prior to Sweetin pulling the switch to turn on more than 11,000 LED lights, she was presented with a LEGO cupcake ornament as an invitation to return next year for the Park’s 20th birthday celebration. In honor of the Park’s birthday and its recent announcement of “Kids free admission on their birthdays in 2019,” Master Model Builders created 20 special LEGO cupcake ornaments to represent each year the family theme park has been open for millions of guests to enjoy. The new ornaments adorn the enormous tree which features more than 400 other LEGO decorations and is created from 245,000 green DUPLO® bricks.
At the ceremony, LEGOLAND California Resort donated $10,000 on Sweetin’s behalf to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, a nonprofit pediatric academic medical center dedicated to creating hope and building healthier futures for children. Children’s Hospital Los Angeles treats more children with complex health conditions than any other hospital in Southern California.
“Thank you to LEGOLAND California Resort for having me here today, it’s an amazing honor to light this incredible LEGO tree and get the holiday season started,” said Sweetin. “I look forward to coming back with my kids and enjoying all the festivities for the Park’s 20th birthday in 2019.”
The tree lighting ceremony is part of LEGOLAND California Resort’s winter celebration, Holidays at LEGOLAND California Resort. Now through Dec. 31, 2018, Funtown has been transformed into a winter wonderland for guests to enjoy. Kids can sing and dance as they watch the LEGO Friends live holiday show and join in building activities. Kids’ New Year’s Eve & Fireworks on 12/31!
Want to ring in the New Year but don’t want to miss their bedtime? On Dec. 31st, LEGOLAND has a party designed with children in mind. Imagine a huge LEGO brick drop from 22-feet in the air launching a spectacular fireworks display at 6 pm in miniland’s Times Square LEGO-style! This celebration begins with special musical performances on Fun Town Stage and Heartlake City. Then, the party moves to San Francisco in Miniland U.S.A. where, like the famous Times Square party, Kids’ New Year’s Eve features a countdown followed by a huge LEGO brick dropping 22 feet into 2018 and spectacular fireworks at 6 p.m. to end the night.
