Play Date/Play Day at Pretend City | @PretendCity

Last week, we were off work and school for MLK Day so I wanted to take my kids somewhere they loved. Pretend City Children’s Museum in Irvine is still a favorite so off we went.

  • a Ralph’s Grocery Store,
  • a Kaiser Medical Center,
  • a beach,
  • a Marina with fishing poles, rain boots, and rain coats,
  • a construction zone,
  • a Wahoo’s Cafe,
  • a Post Office,
  • a library,
  • a Fire Station,
  • a Gas Station,
  • ATM machines,
  • an amphitheater,
  • a Farm,
  • a house with a kitchen, bedroom, and bathrooms, and
  • an art center.
  • Whew – hopefully I didn’t miss anything, but I hope you get the idea. With lots to do, we don’t always make it to each room. Our play dates usually last about 2 to 3 hours so I let my kids pick or I’ll gently guide them to explore another area.
Large floor mats for little ones who want to push little cars and buses.
    Fishing in the Marina.
Rain boots are available to keep those shoes dry in the Marina.

In the Wahoo’s Fish Taco Pretend Cafe, children can prepare faux food in the kitchen, work the register, or serve food to waiting customers.

What I also like is that they have monthly-themed events. For Martin Luther King Jr. Day, they read a book about him during story time. This month, they also celebrated community officers and will celebrate Lunar New Year. There is also a monthly Family Autism Day where they adjust the environment so you’ll want to check out their calendar for the next one.

We didn’t make it to each exhibit, but there is so much to do!
Pretend City is located at 29 Hubble, Irvine, CA. For more information, please visit their website at pretendcity.org or call (949) 428-3900.
