The fifth installment of the ICE AGE movies – ICE AGE: COLLISION COURSE, is now on Blu-ray and DVD! Over the weekend, I attended a media event at Discovery Cube OC to learn more about the film and to celebrate the movie release. The kids loved having breakfast with Scrat. Do you remember seeing a spaceship in a block of ice in the first film? The writers have always wanted to go back to it, but was waiting for the perfect opportunity.
Co-Director, Galen Chu, and Head of Story, Jony Chandra, flew in from New York for a special features demonstration. There were parts of the film that had to get cut, because they couldn’t fit it all in, but they included it as part of the Special Features on the Blu-ray and DVD.

UCLA Professor, Abby Kavner, was also there that morning for the presentation teaching us about space rocks. She passed around some of the oldest rocks that ever existed. The rock we held in our hand below is over 4.5 billion years old!
“Asteroids orbit around the sun. When an asteroid is knocked out of its orbit, it falls down to earth. Those are called meteorite which are pieces of planets billions of years old. They’re the same age as the solar system.”
We are already fans of ICE AGE movies, and the new movie makes a great addition to the series. My kids thought the spaceship was very cool, and I loved the new colorful world that they found. Touring Discovery Cube OC’s exhibits in addition to watching the film was very educational and a fun way to introduce the children to the space world.
