It has been about two months since we tried Mathnasium – The Math Learning Center in Laguna Niguel. My son who has special needs is in Gen Ed this year for 5th Grade and although I know he may or may never catch up, Math is his strength. What is holding him back is reading and comprehension so he struggles with word problems. It is hard for me to gauge how he is doing and where he needs to be, but as long as he is learning that is all that matters to me. I wanted to try Mathnasium to see if they can help close some of those learning … READ MORE >>
One of my boys struggle with reading and comprehension in general which makes it difficult for him to solve math word problems. He has an IEP, and I love his teachers this year, but there is only so much they can do in the classroom. I have partnered up with MATHNASIUM in Laguna Niguel for two months to see if they can help close some of the gaps. What I have seen so far has been impressive. As a learning center, their objectives are to uncover and address the gaps in the student’s knowledge. They hope to build self-confidence and self-esteem in the children. They want to teach it in a way that will make sense for them, and they want to help the children strengthen their math skills. The groups are kept small and the children are rewarded for their efforts. If they accumulate enough points, they spin a wheel at the end of the session for bonus points which are redeemable for prizes. My son looks forward to going back bi-weekly.
If you have been following my fitness journey with Curves, it has now been a month, and it is now time to “Weigh-In”. My commitment was working out with a friend 2-3 times a week for a month, and I am proud to report that I made it to all my Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays morning sessions except one time, and that was because I went hiking. The workouts are 30-minutes which include two rounds of circuits designed for a total body workout alternating muscle groups every 30 seconds plus fifteen minutes of stretching. The workouts include resistance machines that work out lower body, core, and upper body. We’re tracking heart rate with every round of circuit, and there is also cooling time. I lost 4 pounds and overall 7.5 inches! You can see my results below! (Disclaimer: Curves Fitness members on average lose 5 lbs. over a 20‐week period. I received promotional consideration.)
Have you heard of CURVES Fitness Program for women? Some of my friends and I signed up for a month-long membership at CURVES in Laguna Niguel to kick off our fitness journey – “No Make, No Men, and No Mirrors” (their unofficial motto). I have never been inside their facility before, and did not know what to expect, but I am trying to make a lifestyle change by making fitness a priority so that is why I have decided to try them out. They offer 30-minute total body workouts on strength training machines. What I have seen so far, I have been extremely impressed. In thirty minutes, my friend and I are able to complete two rounds of circuit designed to burn fat, increase heart rate, and build strength. We are working every core muscle group and only spend 30 seconds at each station. As I look around the room, everyone is moving at different levels, but I can tell the members have been coming here for years. I don’t feel intimated or judged, and we’re all there for the same reason – to get healthy.
Everyone loves good pizza, and fortunately for us, we have lots to choose from in Orange County. One of the most unique experiences my family had recently was at a FRESH BROTHERS PIZZA. Yes, there was the usual menu tasting, but they have special events for kids called Make-Your-Own-Pizza Play Dates. At the play date, kids can have fun making their own pizzas starting with decorating their pizza boxes with stickers, markers, and crayons. The children have full control of what goes on their pizza like how much sauce and how much toppings. They want extra cheese? No problem. Cheese only? Sure. Maybe they want to make a pizza face with pepperoni. It is totally okay to play with their food this time.
