Here’s a fun holiday tradition that you can enjoy with your family and friends – Go see a holiday boat parade in Orange County! We try to do this every year. Since we are within close proximity to the beaches and harbors, we can select from several viewing spots along Dana Point Harbor, Huntington Harbor, or Newport Harbor. The parade can be enjoyed by land or by boat. We have done both, and they’re both great! Parade routes can be downloaded so you can plan your day accordingly. Some include minute-to-minute stops. A few weeks ago we caught a movie at the historical LIDO THEATER in Newport Beach. To my surprise, it had plenty of seating, and I do not like large crowds so it was perfect. They have added new state-of-the-art projection and sound system. It only has one screen so they rotate the films out often. Located in Via Lido Plaza, it has been restored in recent years yet still has Old Hollywood charm with beautiful lobby chandeliers, vintage poster cases, a working original box office, ocean murals that glow in the dark, art deco architectural details, and waterfall red velvet curtains. It still features its original Catalina tilework which are hand painted and colorful. There is also a balcony which isn’t found in modern theaters these days. It is celebrating its 80th anniversary next year! Here are some fun facts about the theater…
As a Mom, it is hard to think of myself when there is so much that needs to be done, but I do believe making time for myself to recharge is important. I am looking forward to summer break when I don’t have to wake up at 6:30 am to nag my kids to get ready for school, no more homework tears, and let’s not mention occasional road rage during school drop-off and pick-up lines. I do get a lot done in the morning when I am by myself – running errands and sometimes I get to meet friends for coffee or a hike. What a treat! (We are going to have fun this summer too. I am currently working on a bucket list to do with the children this summer.) But first, let me tell you about one of the mornings when the children were in school. I met with blogger friends to try Facialworks Facial Bar in Newport Beach. I have tried them once before at another event and really enjoyed it.
All participating restaurants will offer special, two-or three-course, prix fixe menus priced between $10 and $25 for lunch, and $20 to $50 for dinner.
